GIRL POWER

Pearl of the Week: Pretty in Pink

My grandmother often restated the pearl of “in this life you must surround yourself with a great group of girlfriends.“ I listened.

In law school I was consistently challenged to find my power and embody it
. I can’t tell you how many nights and hours and library I felt so stressed out and just low. Enter my law school girlfriends – a.k.a. - The Pink Ladies.

One of my girl friends, Frenchie, looked me square in the eye and said “you are a brilliant woman!” I was not sure how or whether to accept this compliment. It was not until like the tenth time she said it that I began to hear and believe it.

Law School is an environment prime for eye scratching and fierce competition and I was lucky enough to find some gals who truly wanted me to succeed (and still do).

Sadly, positive reinforcement is something we often get in reverse. Women spend too much precious time plotting to bring others down.

When women set aside the negativity and move forward confidently and work together in the “YES WE CAN” way to nurture and develop ourselves, our children, communities and work environment, my lord, we’ll have reached utopia!

Empowering and supporting each other is key and vital to our success for it truly does take a village.

My children eyeball me for permission throughout their adventures or for validation when they are in mid action, like charging ahead with a ball and bat in hand, going for that extra cookie or in caring for their baby dolls.

One of my greatest roles is to empower my children with confidence and the ability to trust, find and nurture themselves and ambitions.
One way to do this is by example and demonstrate supportive and positive friendships for them and encourage them to forge positive bonds with their friends, throughout time.

I want them to walk through life and whatever halls of power they find themselves in rooting themselves and others on. This conviction, confidence and self assurance is true power.

This one’s dedicated to the Pink Ladies – thank you Trisha, Jennay, Susan and Jr. for being amazingly, fabulous, smart, savvy and beautiful women!! ☺
